• Why Parliament Should Pass Procurement Practitioners Bill
    2 June 2006
PRESS RELEASE
WHY PARLIAMENT SHOULD PASS PROCUREMENT PRACTIONERS BILL
Do you know the average procurement of goods and services by the public sector is
about Kshs 150 billion per year? Do you know that it is estimated that between Ksh
20 and 30 billion is lost through this process through corruption? Do you know this
corruptly lost money could double our number of classrooms from the current
107,000 primary schools in one year? Do you know that we could increase our
health facilities from the current 2,300 to 10,000 for only Kshs 15 billion? Do you
know that we spend about Kshs 2 billion per year on buying medicine? I could go
on and on to prove that we need to reduce loopholes in our public procurement
which would save us a lot of money.
