A firm at the centre of investigations over the Anglo Leasing security-related contract was previously cleared by a parliamentary committee of any wrongdoing. Euromarine Industries, which is being investigated in connection with the intended supply of a Sh4.1 billion warship, had between 1993 and 1995 supplied the Kenya Navy patrol ships.
Judge Matthew Emukule was told of the company's connections with the Kenyan Government during the hearing of a case in which the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission is demanding the firm and two individuals linked to it - Mr Andrew Burnard (a Briton) and Mr Pritpal Singh Thetty (Kenyan) - furnish security before the case they had filed could proceed to full hearing. KACC argues the three who have presented a case in court seeking to block investigations into naval vessel contract should furnish security as the company and the two individuals did not reside in the country.
Yesterday, lawyers Fred Ngatia and Kioko Kilukumi, representing the company and the pair said it was unfair for KACC to investigate their clients when DoD had for years dealt with them.
The counsel produced a report by the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs which cleared the company of any wrong doing in the Sh4.1 billion naval vessel deal.
