Cutting Edge

With the stunning revelations about the billions of shillings allegedly looted during Moi’s 24-year reign, it’s easy to see why the former president would be so keen to see President Kibaki re-elected in December, remarks Jim Webo. “It’s simply about protection. He thinks a new ODM government would be more likely to effect wide-ranging changes that may touch on the stolen public wealth than President Kibaki.”

The looting of Sh130 billion from public coffers in a country where more than 50 per cent of the population wallows in abject poverty amounts to a crime against humanity, declares Evans Kinyua. He adds: “Kenyans should not rest until the thieves are prosecuted some day and the money recovered. Unless this happens, our children may be encouraged to believe that crime does pay.”

Every time he denounces ODM as an amorphous tribal outfit that lacks a manifesto and which should, therefore, not be voted for by Kenyans, Paul Cherop says, he can only read mischief in former President Moi’s remarks. He adds: “After all, Kanu had a beautiful manifesto, but only on paper. During his long tenure, he terribly failed to implement those ideals and thus contributed to the shameless destruction of a once prosperous country.”
