Startup Profile: Tenders
Unlimited
Tenders
Unlimited is a new Kenyan business startup founded by young entrepreneurs,
that is meant to provide a dedicated databased access to tenders
to business people. Companies are able to advertise tenders online
at a very reasonable monthly fee; which helps small and medium sized
companies that are not able to advertise in the mainstream media
to do so online. With the shift in technology towards major use
of the internet, the portal provides a convenient and economical
way for business people to search for tenders online. Yipe.org recently
got a chance to interview one of the portal's founders Jeconia Omondi
Olonde.
Yipe.org:
Tell us how you characterize yourself?
Jeconia: I would describe myself as hardworking,
determined and innovative. I also like coming up with ideas that
may ease processes.
Yipe.org:
When and why did you decide to be an entrepreneur?:
Jeconia: After being employed for some time in
2007 to April 2008, I got kind of bored with repetitiveness of the
work I was doing and decided to challenge myself by starting a company
with my friends. I left work while my friends are still employed
but I manage the business.
Yipe.org:
What has been your learning experience in your business venture?
Jeconia: To never give up. The first days are difficult,
things may not go the way you expect but you have to get up and
start over again. Persistence pays.
Yipe.org:
What's the most challenging aspect of being an entrepreneur from
your perspective?
Jeconia: Not believing you can do it. It dampens
the spirit even if you are capable of doing it. Then getting capital
is difficult especially from Institutions if you don't have security.
Yipe.org:
What changes would you like to see in the business environment you
operate in?
Yipe.org: People need to embrace the new technology
of using internet to advertise or do business. Currently companies
are still not embracing the ideas of posting tenders on the internet
as internet users are increasing.
Yipe.org:
What key personal attributes do you see as important to be a successful
entrepreneurs?:
Yipe.org: Determination, persistence and self belief.
Yipe.org:
What advice would you give to someone contemplating a startup?:
Jeconia: Know the business you are venturing into
before plunging your capital, have a business plan and know your
product well. It's important to also ensure that yout target market
or customers are satisfied with your product. Also don't let profit
be the key driver for your doing the business, because the business
might end up being short term.
Yipe.org:
Thanks Jeconia and best wishes for Tenders Unlimited.
